Students suffering in silence

Hussaini Alam: The only long surviving Government Junior College for Girls in a densely populated area of Hussaini Alam is reeling under shortage of basic facilities. This college is being run inside the same compound of Government Degree College for Women for quite several years.

The compound is a home to almost five institutions - two colleges, Degree and Junior, and three sections of school, pre-primary, primary and high school - running under same roof. Out of the five institutions, the Junior College has a mammoth strength of 1,600 girl students coming from surrounding localities.

Presently the college survives only with its structure sans electrical appliances like fans and lights in the classroom. Lack of toilets and canteen too are adding to the woes of students who face great difficulties to study in such harsh conditions prevailing in the college.

Though the college was established several years ago, the State government's apathy hit it hard as the institution was deprived from basic amenities such as proper classrooms, toilets, fans, and benches.

With no painting done for several years, and lack of maintenance resulted in detached switch boards, cracked roof and absence of doors, displays a pathetic picture of negligence on the part of officials concerned.

"Girl students are preferring to study in the garden area located in the compound staving off from searing temperature and have fresh air. This is the actual picture of the only Government Junior College in the entire area," said Syed Imam Tahseen, a local social activist and president of H-Tech Youth Association, Hyderabad.

"Observing the pathetic condition prevailing in the college, I filed a plea in the High Court seeking intervention of Chief Justice and suitable direction to officials concerned of the Education Department. I hope the effort would yield a better result and help the students in getting a better atmosphere and proper facilities in the college," added Tahseen.
