Swiggy workers stage protest
Musheerabad: Workers of Swiggy staged a demonstration in front of the Labour Department office here on Friday under the auspices of AITUC demanding steps to put an end to their harassment by the management. They were also demanding pay parity among the workers. They alleged that they were being paid less than what was promised to them.
Leaders of AITUC, including State secretary Ratnakar Rao and Oruganti Yadayya who participated in the demonstration, pointed out that the lives of 36,000 workers being employed by Swiggy became uncertain with a bleak future and that they were facing lot of financial hardships because of the anti-worker policies of the management. They pointed out that 20 workers were killed in various accidents in the recent past, while expressing concern.
The workers alleged that as against the promised amount of Rs 60 on each appointment order, the Swiggy management was paying only Rs 25. The protestors demanded job security, steps to stop harassment of workers, payment of Rs 20 lakh accident insurance to the families of each worker killed in accidents, implementation of ESI and PF facilities, continuance of the old incentive policy, payment of additional Rs.30 for each late-night order.
They warned they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not conceded. Among the workers who took part in the demonstration were S Ramesh, Bikshapati, G Rajashekar. They submitted a representation to the Labour Commissioner in this regard.
