Taps in Karkhana area running dry for a month
Secunderabad: The southern areas of Secunderabad continue to face water crisis with the onset of summer. Karkhana is one of the worst affected areas as for the past one month, the residents of the AP Textbook Colony and surrounding areas have been facing worse conditions.
Some of the residents here on Monday told The Hans India, that there was no water supply in their colony for the past one week. When contacted, the officials concerned said that the pipeline was damaged causing disruption of water supply in some areas. The Secunderabad Cantonment has not taken any measures to resolve the water issues for the past many years in the affected areas like Marredpally and Karkhana.
Private tankers are being booked in huge numbers every day. The colony committee, although has sought to assist the residents with tankers that provide water from the colony borewell at reasonable rates, said, "The problem of water scarcity has been always there but has never been so bad in all these years. At this point, water is being purchased on a daily basis even after being used minimally," said a local. The people are struggling to fetch water and exploring other ways to tide over the crisis in the scorching summer.
