Telangana movement activists seek due recognition

Amberpet: An activist who participated in the Telangana movement, Boya Venkataramna, demanded that the state government help activists who participated in the movement, by rewarding them with nominated posts in recognition of their contribution to the movement.

He was speaking at Ali Café Crossroads, where he had been on a three-day relay hunger strike seeking justice for the activists of Telangana movement. Venkataramana said that many activists participated in the movement since 2001 and faced severe hardships during the agitation.

Some had even left their families and lost their properties, he added. He criticised the state government for not giving proper recognition to the activists who participated in the movement; instead, the TRS government was giving nominated posts to persons who defected to it from other parties and to those who never participated in the movement. Several activists in Amberpet constituency played a key role in the movement as the area is in proximity to the Osmania University campus, he said.

They faced lathi blows and even bullets, yet they fought against the government for the formation of the new state. But, they had not been given any proper recognition by the state government, he lamented. On the occasion, he remembered contributions of the activists DCM driver Nasar and another senior leader Jeevan Goud who played an active role in the movement.

He warned of intense agitation if the state government did not announce nominated posts to the activists who participated in the movement by June 3. Among those present were TRS senior leader Krishna Yadav, Arun Kumar Reddy, Linga Rao, Jeevan Goud, Naveen Yadav, Gopal Goud, Srinivas Reddy, Narender, Ramu Yadav, advocate Rajesh, Mallikarjun and others.
