Thalassemia Society reaches out to patients
Rajendranagar: With a vision to free the Telangana State from the Thalassemia disease by 2022, the Thalassemia Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) has moved one step ahead by opening up a new space at Raghavendra Colony, Shivrampally, to render free service to all those patients reeling under the clutches of blood-related disorder.
The programme was organised with the motto of 'Thalassemia Free Telangana by 2022' in the presence of Health Minister Eatala Rajender, Chevella Member of Parliament G Ranjith Reddy, Rajendranagar MLA Prakash Goud, VSR Moorthy, and former CBI Joint Director VV Lakshminarayana.
TSCS is an NGO has established to serve the people suffering with Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease. The new space was equipped with diagnostic lab, blood bank and transfusion centre under one roof. At present, around 40 blood transfusions are carried on daily basis.
The centre has enrolled around 440 patients with different health issues under Aarogyashri to provide them free treatment. The Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) is a costly medical affair but TSCS is making all possible efforts to come up with a state-of-the-art centre with a team of experienced and devoted
doctors.
Emphasising the need to bring about awareness in the masses about the burgeoning cases of Thalassemia, Eatala Rajender called upon the people to practise healthy way of living and lead a proactive life. He said, "the TRS government is creating all necessary facilities in order to usher in a healthy society."
"It is very unfortunate that the number of thalassemia patients is increasing day by day and in the absence of proper awareness, more and more people are getting affected with the disease which is preventable if precautions are taken in time," said MP Chevella, G Ranjith Reddy. The MP called upon people, especially pregnant women, to take all possible precautions and constantly go for check-ups to be aware of any increasing or decreasing of RBCs (Red Blood Cells) in their bodies.
TSCS president Chandrakant Agarwal emphasised the need to focus on prevention of thalassemia, which is a serious, costly inherited genetic blood disorder wherein the patients require blood transfusion throughout their life. Vice-President K.Ratnavali said thalassemia is a preventable blood disorder and society has embarked on to see its complete elimination by 2022.
MLA Rajendranagar T. Prakash Goud, Former Director CBI Lakshminarayana, VV Lakshmi Narayana, VSR Moorthi, Secretary Dr.Suman Jain too spoke at the even. Joint Secretary TSCS M.A.Aleem, Sham Sunder Loyal, Industrialist Rajesh Agarwal and other presented the occasion.
