TJS demands rollback of new Motor Vehicle Act

Musheerabad: The president of Telangana Jana Samithi city committee, Narsaiah demanded that the Central government withdraw the Motor Vehicle Act 2019 which was recently passed in the Parliament. He was speaking at the press conference held here at the party office on Thursday.

Speaking to media, Narsaiah said that the new Act would destroy the lives of poor people as they would not be able to bear the burden of heavy penalties imposed for traffic violations. He demanded that the Central government withdraw the Act and continue with the old law.

He said 90 per cent of people commute for sustenance and heavy penalties mentioned in the Act would shatter lives of poor people. Questioning rationale behind the imposition of heavy penalties, he advised the Central government to ensure that all the roads were without potholes and adopt better traffic control measures before imposing penalties on traffic violators.

He expressed his concerns that Act may result increase corruption. He said that TJS would start an agitation over the issue. As part of its movement, the party leaders would submit memorandums on the issue to officials and ministers, he said. A round table conference would also be held with political and labour associations, he said.

TJS state leaders Avula Balram, Vijay Kumar, B Ramchander, Hanmanth Reddy, Jashwanth, Shiva Lingachari, Ravikanth and others were present during the press conference.
