Tourism department to revive Heritage Walk

Charminar : Telangana tourism has decided to revive the 20-year-old 'Heritage Walk' initiative which fetched good results till recent years. Keeping in view developmental activities going on around Charminar, the weekly 'Heritage Walk' now aims to target international tourists through social media platforms.

Following the participation of some German tourists in the early morning Heritage Walk from Charminar, the previous Sunday, the Wing now aims to target more tourists through attractive promotional content highlighting centuries old architectural style and historic importance of the buildings in and around Charminar.

It is learnt that the foreign tourists love to post selfies and attractive heritage structures on social media. Those who visit other important places in India may be encouraged to visit Hyderabad solely for taking part in this heritage walk through social media apps that has international exposure" said, Assistant Tourism Officer, A Anjaiah.

From next week onwards, the wing is expecting over hundred tourists participating in the Heritage Walk, who could learn about the historical importance of heritage structures including Purani Haveli, Chowmohalla palace and Badshahi Ashurkhana. "For over a week, we started to brush up and revive this Walk which was started in 1999. Not only adults but also school children can take part in the walk, if the school managements are interested," he added.

Besides the regular guide Sambarani, Raise Kubra, S Anand and S Khaja would be explaining the history of Charminar and the destined heritage structure, when the numbers swell. The walk which starts at 7.30 am on Sunday has three different destinations depending on the week. The Walk 1- starts from Charminar and concludes at Chowmohalla palace and remains the most preferred amongst the three walks.

The Walk 2- starts from Charminar and concludes at Badshahi Ashurkhana, near Madina Building, Walk 3- also starts from Charminar and concludes at Purani Haveli. "We wish that people also take part in Walk 4 (River Front Walk) and Walk 5 (Library Walk) which is also being taken up by the Tourism Department on request by students, nature enthusiasts and environmentalists and researchers. The newly inducted Walks which is conducted along Musi river and Afzalgunj's Central Library. With breakfast and service of tour guide, the Heritage Walk is charged a nominal fee of Rs 100," added the official.
