Treat us humanely, urge domestic workers

Indira Park: Telangana domestic workers union celebrated International Domestic Workers Day at lwert Tank Bund and it is the 8th anniversary of the ILO Convention on decent work for domestic workers. They stated that a total of 28 countries ratified ILO C-189 bringing domestic work under decent work. Honorable minister of Labour Ch. Malla Reddy attended as the chief guest.

They said, "Domestic workers contribute to the economy of the home, state and country. They make lives of people easy with their work and sacrifices." They put forth some demands in favour of the domestic workers: Establishmane of labour welfare board and registration of all workers; Extending to them ESI and maternity benefits, pension to 55+ and housing, ratifying ILO C-189 bringing domestic work under decent work ambit, and enactment of comprehensive legislation for them as demanded by NPDW. Dr Bala Gangadhar, Kodanda Ram, Vijayalakshmi, Sajaiah, Asha Latha, Shakeel and others participated in the event.
