Bagh Lingampally: The president of Telangana State Denotified, Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes Association, Onteddu Narender, has alleged that TRS government has not taken any measures for development and welfare of denotified and nomadic tribes in the State. Narender said that nomadic tribes played an important role during the freedom struggle. It was the people from nomadic tribes who first revolted against the Britishers and helped freedom fighters during the freedom struggle.

However, even after 70 years of independence, several tribes had not been recognised by the government even to this day, he lamented. He demanded that the government allocate Rs 1,000 crore budget for the welfare of nomadic tribes and appoint a person from the tribes as chairman of Most Backward Classes (MBC) Corporation.

As the tribes were deprived of political representation, the government should consider appointing persons from the tribes for nominated posts, Narender said. He also demanded that the government establish Gurukul Schools for the tribes as they were kept away from education for many years. Later, a new body of the association was formed at the meeting.

Narender was elected as state president, Erra Venkatanarayana as chairman, R Vishweshwaraiah as honorary president, K Veeraswamy as executive president, Khambam Shivaramakrishna, Are Ramulu, G Sathyanarayana, Krishna, Kanakaiah as vice presidents, C Srinivas as general secretary and Yadagiri Rao as joint secretary.
