Musheerabad : A team of BC leaders led by R Krishnaiah met the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, at his residence here on Monday and submitted a memorandum, urging him to see that caste-wise population of BCs be gathered in Census to be conducted in 2020.

At the core committee meeting of Union Home Ministry held a year ago, it was decided to collect caste-wise data of BCs and a circular was issued on the same. However, a sample paper recently released by the Home Ministry recently did not have any column related to BC castes, Krishnaiah said. BC leaders appealed to the minister to ensure that a column-related to BC castes be included in the Census.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Krishnaiah emphasised on the need for collecting caste-wise data of BCs for various purposes such as implementation of BC reservation in education, employment, elections and different government schemes. Due to lack of information about BC population, implementation of BC reservations has become difficult and the issue is caught in court litigations.

He said that the team also demanded 50 per cent reservation to BCs in assembly and parliament elections and formation of separate ministry for BC welfare. BC leaders Gujja Krishna, Rama Rao, Kiran, Venkatesh, Charan, Chander Rao, Narsing Goud, Satish, Chandrashekhar Goud and others were among those who met the Union Minister.
