TS Haj Committee urges immediate action on poor facilities for Haj pilgrims

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Haj Committee has raised serious concerns over the deplorable conditions faced by Haj pilgrims in buildings No. 127 and 466 in Aziziya, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In a letter addressed to the joint secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, Shaik Liyakat Hussain, executive officer of the Telangana State Haj Committee, highlighted the urgent need for improved facilities and immediate intervention.

In his communication, Hussain pointed out the severe deficiencies in the infrastructure and amenities provided to the pilgrims. “The conditions in buildings No. 127 and 466 are appalling. Pilgrims have been facing a myriad of issues, including infestations of cockroaches and rodents, malfunctioning geysers, lack of exhaust fans in bathrooms, non-functional refrigerators, inadequate air conditioning, damaged electrical sockets, and poor sanitary fittings,” he wrote. He also noted the critical

lack of essential services such as drinking water, general water supply, washing machines, and functioning gas stoves. The kitchen facilities, meant to serve 25 pilgrims, were described as grossly insufficient.

Hussain emphasised the anxiety and frustration among the pilgrims due to these unacceptable living conditions. He also expressed astonishment at the absence of a basic water supply for daily needs, which has exacerbated their distress.

The letter called for immediate instructions to the concerned officials from the AHO, IHM, and CGI in Jeddah to address these grievances and ensure proper facilities for the Haj pilgrims. Copies of the letter were also sent to the chief executive officer of the Haj Committee of India and the Consulate General of India in Jeddah, urging them to take swift action.
