TSRTC Employee Union celebrates May Day
Musheerabad: TSRTC Employee Union celebrated 133rd May Day celebrations at their main office here on Wednesday. As part of celebrations, the union president S Babu hoisted the AITUC flag and general secretary K Raji Reddy hoisted May Day flag.
Speaking on the occasion, S Babu said that the facilities that the present-day labour were enjoying were the result of many sacrifices made in the past. A century ago, labour were forced to work for 24 hours but that was reduced to eight hours due to the intense struggles waged by the then labour in America a century ago. The strike of 1896 showed what the labour unity could achieve, he said.
What was achieved a century ago by labour through immense struggle had been snatched away from RTC workers, he lamented. Most of the RTC workers were being made to work for 12 to 16 hours by the RTC management due to lack of unity among RTC employees, he said.
He felt that the unity among the RTC employees was the need of the hour and all unions should stage a united fight against injustice being done to the employees. RTC employees are in a severe financial distress as the wage revision which was to be done before April 2017 was still not done. He demanded that the RTC management implement wage revision at the earliest.
Among those who participated in May Day celebrations were state secretaries of the union D Gopal and K Rami Reddy, state assistant secretary S Manga, treasurer A Trilochana, zonal secretaries of Greater Hyderabad MD Majid and J Raghavulu, Hyderabad zonal secretary S Sai Reddy and other union members.
