Tyre godown gutted in major fire

Vanasthalipuram: A major fire broke out in a tyre godown here on Sunday evening totally damaging the building. It continued for nearly 12 hours as more than 6,000 tyres were stored on the premises. The blaze was brought under control by the Fire Services, 10 Disaster Relief Force (DRF) and GHMC teams early morning of Monday.

On receiving information, the Fire Services department staff reached the godown on two fire tenders and began their efforts to douse the flames at 5 pm on Sunday. When the Herculean efforts by fire personnel failed to douse the flames, a 50-member DRF team was rushed to the spot.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and GHMC Enforcement Director Viswajit Kampati reached the location and coordinated with every department officials and staff concerned. After getting orders from Rammohan, the GHMC staff pulled down the building.

By Monday early morning, the premises was demolished and the fire was extinguished. Residents near the godown were shifted to safer places to avoid loss of lives and property. Corporator Koppula Vittal Reddy also coordinated the relief and rescue work.
