University of Hyderabad campus turns greener

Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has a large campus with immense biodiversity and is home to over 75 varieties of bird, lakes, large green covers and rock formations which give the campus a natural beauty.

At the recent meeting held with stakeholders on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by all United Nations Member States, the participants had articulated several important points covering areas like e-waste recycling, water management, auditing of our water/electricity, greener commute, eco-club, multidisciplinary activities under IoE, etc., towards which the university should contribute and make a difference.

Environmentally friendly e-Auto rickshaw services on the UoH campus commenced on December 6. In this way, the university strives to combat the extremely detrimental carbon emitting conventional fuel vehicles. This initiative of the University speaks of its endeavours in mitigating the environmental challenges that exist and significantly improve the air quality

In order to preserve the natural habitat on the premises and to keep its campus pollution free, the University of Hyderabad has taken above, a small step towards Greener Campus. Those who would like to contribute to its upkeep and sustenance are requested to make a contribution towards their mobility by greener commute, i.e. e-auto rickshaw.

The services of two e-auto rickshaws will be available from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm at a flat fare of Rs 10. The fares have to be paid only by e-wallets (Paytm) or through UPI. The current routes link major buildings, departments, hostels and the library. The service is being run by Transvahan Technologies India Private Limited, Bengaluru on 'Own, Operate and Maintain' basis.
