Villagers see red as green drive neglected
Vatpally: Despite the state government laying much emphasis on the Haritha Haram, the prestigious programme of Telangana has been losing its ground in some parts due to negligence of some officials.
On one hand, government has been publicising that everyone should plant saplings and make the programme a grand success, and, on the other hand, some negligent officials are watering down the spirt of the programme.
Such carelessness is glaringly evident at Vatpally, a mandal headquarter in Sangareddy district. There are only eight nurseries functioning in all 21gram panchayats. Some nurseries have dried up due to lack of care. As per the government drive, every village has to have one nursery each. Weeds have grown in place of specified plants. The APO post has been vacant in the mandal.
Officials just kept the saplings on both sides of the roads from Vatpally to Devanur and Talelma. The pits were dug, but they were also left unattended. The saplings carelessly left on the roadside also dried up. The saplings should be planted during the rains in the month, but the officials did not show any interest in that.
Villagers said the government already spent some amount on the saplings and digging the pits, but they are of no use now. Even the saplings brought to this mandal are from neighbouring Alladurg. Villages appeal higherups to look into the situation and take necessary action.
