Villages along Outer Ring Road come under HMWSSB purview
Khairatabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) have taken over the operation and maintenance of water supply systems of villages situated within Outer Ring Road from Rural Water Supply (RWS) department.
In order to improve the water supply systems, HMWSSB has taken up a project at a cost of Rs.756 Crore to develop the new storage reservoirs and strengthening of pipeline network. Under these project, 164 reservoirs at a capacity of 71 million litres and 1700-km pipeline are being developed.
As the project is nearing completion, now HMWSSB programmed to take over the total water supply operations from all Gram Panchayats and Municipalities. All the present water supply operating staff of gram panchayats and municipalities will function under HMWSSB and the operating costs wages to such staff will be continued to be paid by the respective gram panchayats and municipalities from their revenue sources till the revenue billing system is completely stabilised for self-sustenance. HMWSSB requested all the customers and public to cooperate for smooth takeover of water supply systems.
