Water crisis haunts Abdullapurmet

Abdullapurmet: The non-availability of the natural water resources and HMWSSB facing water scarcity due to summer the Abdullapurmet grampanchayat officials are failing to provide basic amenities to people here. Abdullapurmet has a population of seven thousand people. Water scarcity and drainage system are the main problems here.

GHMC had installed 69 bore wells when the JNNRUM colony was in formation. But this step has turned futile as the ground water level depleted gradually. As an alternative, the RWS officials have setup an overhead tank at a cost of Rs 12 lakh giving some respite to agonised residents.

A total of 17 bore wells have been sunk in the old village and new colonies under Abdullapurment Gramapanchayat. Only a few out of these 17 are being used while other bore wells have completely dried up. With no maintenance and blocking the inflows, the village tank has completely dried up. So as all the wells in the grampanchayat as there is no groundwater recharge mechanism like rainwater harvesting implemented in the village.

Having utilised all the resources completely, the villagers and colony residents are looking out for alternative ways to quench their thirst.

The locals say that, "We voted in assembly elections and panchayat elections. Now, we are ready to cast our votes for Loksabha elections. But our lives have remained the same without any progress," they expressed their ire. They urge the leaders and people's representatives to come to their aid and to solve their issue.

Burra Mahender, a resident said the drinking water problem remained unsolved even after making several rounds to the officials concerned. "We are facing hardships for want of water.

Officials failed to live up to their promise of providing water to every household here. The water supplied through tankers is partially sufficient. We are using every drop of water carefully," he added.
