Secunderabad: Once again several areas in Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) are facing water shortage for the past few weeks. Marredpally, Trimulgherry, Karkhana and Bowenpally are the most-affected areas and they are receiving water once in three days.

Speaking to Hans India Shashank Surya, assistant engineer (civil), water and streetlight department of SCB, said, "The reason is that HMWS&SB is not supplying sufficient water and its quality is not up to the mark."

SCB is buying water at a high rate for Rs 13.50 per kiloliter from the Water Board. Rs 7 per kilolitre was decided in the last Board Meeting with Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao. The minister had said that they would make the rate equal with GHMC but still, it has not been fulfilled, Shashank said.

Informing about the quantity of water supply, Shahsank said at present the Water Board is supplying 56 to 59 lakh gallons of water per day (LGPD) against the requirement of 64 LGPD. After the recent rains, there was a technical problem related to water pumps, so there was a delay in water supply.

Presently, only 12 tankers are being operated because new water pipelines in the SCB area have been laid. However, due to shortage of water supply from HMWSSB there was a scarcity of water in some areas, the AE said.

There were many illegal water connections in SCB. Recently, around 60 illegal water connections were traced in SCB and it would be regularized, he said. If we get the required water and technical problem of HMWSSB are resolved then we can supply water on alternate days instead of once in three days, added Shashank.
