Where are LED lights, ask Secunderabad Cantonment Board residents
Secunderabad: In several areas including Tirumalagiri X Road to RK Puram flyover, Allahabad Gate to Yapral, the LED lights are conspicuous by their absence. The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) had entered into an agreement with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) to install 10,000 LED lights by replacing sodium vapor lights.
Residents in the Secunderabad Cantonment have been complaining about lack of streetlights as thefts increased in their areas, but the officials do not seem to agree. Sravan Kumar, assistant engineer (E&M), SCB said, "In all, 10,000 lights were installed in the eight wards. They are in working condition. As and when we receive complaints from locals we repair or replace them."
"I haven't seen any streetlights on the Trimalgherry to R K Puram stretch," said Chandrasekhar, Secretary, Federation of North-Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS). "Due to lack of streetlights at 108 Bazaar, several accidents are taking place and in many places they are dysfunctional.
We have complained several times but the officials keep telling us that they would repair, but no action is taken," says Anil, resident of 108 Bazaar. The same is the case in Vasavi Nagar, says G Sai, secretary of Vasavi Nagar.
"Our target was to install 10000 street light and we have installed all of them. As the durability of the light is for seven years and whenever we receive any complaint we are immediately taking action," clarified Sravan Kumar.
