Wine shops flout rules on location

Lalapet: Though there is a rule which specifies that liquor shops should not be set up in the vicinity of educational institutions and residental area and hospitals and places of worship within 100 meters, many wine shops exist in their proximity, blatantly flouting the regulations.

A resident expressed his grievance by saying that the new Telangana government came up with a new excise policy to encourage setting up of liquors shop for revenue. A shopkeeper on condition of anonymity said, "Drunkards consume alcohol causing inconvenience to people and also few empty bottles are thrown in front of my shop." In the evening time, women find it difficult to walk on roads.
