Woman gets 3-year RI for cheating

LB Nagar: A woman on Tuesday was sentenced for three years rigorous imprisonment for cheating women promising them to provide government houses.

The accused K Kalpana (45), a resident of LB Nagar told the complainant's wife K Bhavani of Chikkadapally that the central government was providing houses to the poor people, for which each person had to pay Rs 25,000 initially.

By believing her words Bhavani along with 25 others who were running Sri Kalki Mahila Mandali, paid Rs 6.25 lakh and other expenditures amount of Rs 1.25 lakh the convicted Kalpana and took cash receipts from her.

Even after two years when the women did not get the promised houses, they approached police for justice. Based on the complaint, police registered cases under section 420 IPC on February 23, 2013 and arrested the culprit and filed the charge sheet in the court. During the trial on Tuesday the II MM at LB Nagar sentenced the convict to undergo 3 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs 10,000.
