Chanchalguda: A woman who landed in Oman with hope to work as beautician was forced to work as housemaid. Escaping from the clutches of the employer, she reached the Indian Embassy in Muscat. After battling with legal hurdles for months, she returned home following intervention of Embassy officials who helped her in pay challan and for return ticket.

According to MBT leader, Amjedullah Khan who pursued her matter with External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj said that Kulsum Begum, a resident of Chanchalguda who was in search of a job due to our financial conditions was offered a job to work as a beautician in Muscat in Oman and promised to pay Rs 25,000 per month.

She travelled to Muscat, Oman, in 2017 and was received by another agent and was taken to a recruitment office there. However, she was asked to work in houses as a housemaid. During her stay, she was ill-treated and denied proper food and accommodation.

She was beaten and kept without food in a locked room. Unable to bear the torture, she along with another servant ran away from that house and reached the Indian embassy in Muscat and remained at its shelter house for last 4 months, owing to legal hurdles.

Her daughters approached Amjedullah for help in rescuing their mother. They also lodged a complaint against the local agents prompting their arrest. Meanwhile some penalty was imposed on Kulsum Begum.

But because of her poor family background she could not pay and Indian Embassy staff helped her. She reached Hyderabad and has been referred to Osmania General Hospital, as her both kidneys had been severely affected.
