Secunderabad: Around 30 women, along with various women associations like All India Democratic Women Association, raised slogans and staged protest demanding immediate closure or removal of a liquor shop newly opened in a residential area in Parsigutta of Secunderabad.

For the past four days, the local women of Parsiguttaare protesting vehemently against the opening of new liquor vend as there already exists five wine shops in the densely populated residential locality. The new liquor vend was opened on Friday under the Excise Policy for 2019-21.

The women submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, Chandravadan on Tuesday evening. "We find it difficult to walk on the stretch or go to shops where liquor shops are located because of drunkards who openly consume alcohol and disturb the peaceful ambience with arguments and nuisance. Adding to it there is an auto stand next t0 the shop," said Sujatha, a resident of Parsigutta.

The women and children seldom venture out after eight pm as many women of the locality had become victims of eve-teasing. The shop should be closed or shifted for the safeguard of women and children," said Padma, a resident and member of All India Democratic Women Association.
