Wondrous display of devotion

Hyderabad: Bommala Koluvu (displaying of toys) signifies one of the cultures and traditions of Telangana. B Padmavathi, a resident of Anand Nagar Colony, Khairatabad, out of her passion likes to display various unique dolls and idols. Nearly 3,500 dolls are displayed on the theme Ksheerasagar Madanam this year.

Padmavathi told The Hans India "Generally toys are displayed during Deepavali or Dussehra but at our place, we display it on Sankranti. we have been following this tradition for the past 70 years. I personally take a lot of interest in decorating the toys and I am doing this from my childhood and over the years, it has become my passion.

On Tuesday we have started displaying the dolls and it would continue till January 31. These artefacts from various Indian states and also from overseas like Nirmal, Kondapalli, China, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sweden, Finland, Australia are also on display. Every year we display the dolls on different themes and concepts. Displaying the dolls takes almost a week.

The toys are mostly made of clay and wood. Some dolls which are in the display are from past several generations. In this display, you can find toys of various sizes of laughing Buddha and also a small Rythu Bazar depicting a vendor selling vegetables.
