Wooden bridge in the works at Lakd-ka-Pul

Lakdi-ka-pul: The name Lakdi-ka-pul has always triggered a question. Now the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is coming up with a bridge made of wood at the junction. Lakdi means wood in Hindi. Old timers say that there used to be a wooden bridge supported with wooden poles and that is how the place came to be named.

The GHMC is coming up with a bridge, symbolic in nature to remind people of the past. The project is part of the city beautification programme. The junction which once was a traffic police booth and parking place because of the many hotels and shops nearby, the vacant space was being used for parking vehicles.

Each pillar is eight feet in height and one feet width, the railing is 14 meters long and 1.2 meters wide. The bridge is made up of fibre. Officials say that it gives a look and feel of wood and the maintenance is minimal. Officials say that the place could become a landmark and a selfie point and would resonate with the common man and tourists.
