Santosh Nagar: The job-oriented free skill training being provided under Central government-supported Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), which offers courses that can enhance employability of youth, has witnessed low attendance. Even though hoards of students join the courses, but when it comes to attending regular classes, barely one-fourth of them appear to be interested.

Interestingly, the youth are showing enthusiasm while registering themselves for courses, but within a few days their attendance can be seen decreased drastically. Despite clear directions to attend classes and adhere to the norms, these youth are found to be returning at the time of receiving their certifications for 3-months or 6-months course.

"This year our institution has received more than 200 applications who registered under DAY-NULM for different courses. But daily around 50 are appearing to attend classes. If they are serious about learning skill set which is in demand, they will not only get certificate but also can guidance for getting placement," said Mohammed Basheer Ahmed, General Secretary, SNSM Computer and Educational Technical Institute located in Santoshnagar.

Speaking to The Hans India, Basheer informed that this training centre offers courses of Software Developer, Accounts Executive, Pharmacy Assistant, Medical Lab Technician, X-Ray Technician, ECG Technician, Home Appliances Technician, CCtv Technician, Hardware Technician, Air Condition Technician and Refrigerator Technician depending on qualification of the candidates. "These courses are being offered as part of the Central Government initiative for helping the underprivileged get free skill training. This training is provided in Old City, Santosh Nagar for the candidates who are interested in skill training," he explained.

Basheer Ahmed said that this DAY-NULM classes were started on October 9 for this year and in first batch there around 25 candidates who are undergoing training in Medical Lab technician course. "It's the best opportunity for the candidates," he added.

As part of the admission process, after the registration of the candidate in the particular course the batch will be started. Daily online bio-metric attendance has been made mandatory. During the duration of first 15 days the candidate must attend 10-days classes and overall more than 80 per cent of attendance is mandatory, if not the candidate will be listed as a dropped out.

"The institution is bringing awareness among the candidates to avail this free training. As daily around 4-5 hours of training will be offered in Institution. Last year under this scheme 158 candidates have passed out. The courses are offered with the duration of 3 to 6 months according to the selection of course", Basheer Ahmed added.
