Services affected in Khammam
Khammam: Demonstrations staged and rallies were taken out in Khammam on Thursday as part of nation-wide strike called by 10 central trade unions in protest against the BJP government's alleged anti-worker and anti-farmer policies.
Public transportation and other services were affected partially in the erstwhile Khammam as leaders and workers of different trade unions staged demonstrations at RTC bus stands and depots preventing buses from coming onto the roads.
Left parties leaders B Hemantha Rao, P Sudarshan Rao, Ranga Rao, Congress leader P Durga Prasad, TS Municipal Staff and Outsourcing workers union leader M Gandhi Venkat
Jaya, TRSV KMC honorary president K Murali and others joined the protests.
Speaking to the media, the leaders alleged that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working against the interests of farmers and workers with its new farm and labour laws. The Modi government was only serving the interests of corporate forces like Ambani and Adani while neglecting the common public and their needs. The recently introduced farm bill leaves the farmers at the mercy of corporate forces, Hemantha Rao and others noted.
The same was the case with workers as the NDA government has diluted the Labour Laws with the amendments and wants to restrict the rights of workers to strike besides increasing the threshold relating to layoffs, complained Venkat Jaya.
