Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar calls for strict adherence to traffic rules
Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar stated that 11% of world's accidents were taking place in India. Addressing the gathering on the valedictory of 31st National Road Safety Week celebrations in Khammam on Sunday, he suggested every motorist to follow traffic rules and save their lives. Before the meeting, he along with Joint Collector K Hanumanthu, Khammam Mayor Papalal and Khammam Municipal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi, Puvvada participated in a bike rally and urged the two-wheeler riders to wear helmets for their safety.
He informed that a large number of accidents were taking place in the State due to talking over cell phones while driving, for not wearing seat belts and driving under the influence of alcohol. The Transport Minister on the occasion stated that to avert accidents, the government has been conducting traffic awareness camps and implementing the rules strictly.
He informed in the State, 1.25 crore vehicles were registered and of them 90 lakh were two- wheelers, 15 lakh cars and taxis, 10,000 RTC buses. He said nearly 4 lakh were either killed or injured in the accidents. He asserted travelling in RTC buses as safest and suggested the populace to travel in RTC whenever it was possible. Joint Collector Hanumanth Kodimbha said the government was conducting many awareness programmes on traffic rules and everyone should know and follow them. The Minister felicitated RTC drivers who were selected the best drivers in the Khammam region during the programme.
District Transport Officer B Krishna Reddy, RTC Regional Manager Krishna Murthy, Revenue Divisional Officer Ravindernath, Deputy Mayor Batthula Murali, Corporators P Naga Raju, Kamarthapu Murali, K Bhasker Rao, Transport officers, auto, bus drivers attended the meeting.
