Strict measures against fake seeds, warns R&B Minister Vemula

Nizamabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy has directed the officials of agriculture department to take strict action and conduct pre-inspections to avoid selling of fake seeds anywhere in the district.

Pragati Bhavan conference hall in the Collectorate here on Wednesday, the Minister said quality seeds should be provided to farmers. The officials were told to set up flying squad to conduct checking to prevent selling

spurious seeds anywhere and to check seeds stock in warehouses. They were also told to invoke PD Act against anyone, who sells fake seeds and to register cases if needed.

The Minister also directed the officials concerned to store required amount of fertilisers and seeds in advance as per the area under cultivation and to ensure there will be no shortage.

District Agriculture Officer Govindu told Minister Reddy that 1.10 lakh metric metric tonnes of urea would be required for this yasangi and 35,000 tonnes was ready. He explained that all precautionary measures were being taken to set up everything in advance without any problem.

Speaking about irrigation water action plan, the Minister said 4.5 TMCs water has been approved to supply from Sriram Sagar project through Alisagar lift irrigation scheme during Rabi season from December 24. He asked the farmers to make utilise the water judicially and achieve better yields.

MLCs Rajeshwar Rao and V Gangadhar Goud, Jukkal MLA Hanmanth Shinde, Additional Collectors of Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts Chandrasekhar and Yadireddy, NUDA Chairman Prabhakar Reddy, irrigation department Supervising Engineer Muralidhar, project engineers, district agriculture officers and others participated in the meeting.
