Milk collection in Chittoor from today

Tirupati: The collection of milk under the prestigious AP-Amul Milk Project will start in Chittoor district from Friday.

To begin with the milk collection will be taken up in the select 50 villages each in Madanapalle and Ramasamudram mandals in the district which will be increased soon to 100 villages each in the two mandals.

The government in an effort to boost up the dairy in the State tied up with the Gujarat-based dairy major Amul to launch AP-Amul Milk Project for the benefit of the farmers. The government decided to implement the project on pilot basis in three districts including Prakasam, Kadapa and Chittoor districts.

Ahead of the starting of the milk collection, a team of district officials led by Collector Dr Narayan Bharat Gupta along with Amul Assistant General Manager (AGM) Anil held a meeting-cum-training with village level secretaries, assistant secretaries and digital assistants of the women committee specially formed for the milk collection from the farmers in the select villages in the two mandals.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta said the Amul project was specially envisaged for the sake of women and to make them achieve economic empowerment ending their dependence on others.

The Amul project will help the dairy farmers get competitive prices depending on the quality of the milk they supply, the Collector said, exuding hope that the project would succeed in ensuring a fair deal to the dairy farmers in the district, one of the major milk producers in the State.

It is pertinent to note that the district is producing about 38 lakh litres of milk daily which turned a major source of livelihood for agriculture labourers, small and marginal farmers.

Joint Collector (Development) Veera Brahmam, Madanapalli Sub-Collector Jahnavi and others were present.
