Parking of vehicles to be streamlined at Tirupati Airport

Tirupati: In a bid to streamline the movement of vehicles at Tirupati International Airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) introduced a new car parking policy to be implemented from March 1. From that date there will be access fee for all commercial vehicles entering the pick-up lanes which will facilitate easy movement of vehicles at the pick-up area. However, access fee will not be levied for those vehicles who come to drop the passengers for departure and that time should not exceed three minutes.

Vehicles going to arrivals for pick-up also will not be allowed to stay there for more than three minutes. Beyond that time, they will be guided to go to the parking area. The contract for lane and parking management was awarded to Omega Enterprises by AAI. Parking tariff will be levied on all vehicles going to that parking area.

The Director of Tirupati Airport S Suresh told The Hans India that as per the new tariff, for two wheelers Rs.10 will be levied up to 30 minutes at the parking area and Rs.15 for up to 2 hours. For cars/tempo/minibus/SUV, Rs.20 will be levied for first 30 minutes, Rs.35 up to 2 hours and Rs.10 per hour thereafter. Similarly, the minimum fee for Coach/ Bus/ Truck would be Rs.20 and Rs.50 up to two hours. He further said that the government vehicles are exempted from paying the fee though the hired vehicles for government departments are not exempted. The licensee will deploy traffic marshals to look after lane management. With automation of the parking system, computerised billing will be introduced and CC TV cameras have been set up for vehicle tracking.
