Stringent laws needed to prevent cyber frauds

Tirupati: Speakers at a meeting held on the occasion of 'World Consumer Day' stressed on bringing a stringent law to check growing online frauds depriving consumers huge amount of money.

District Consumers Information Centre (DCIC) president P Raja Reddy said that the online trade penetrated deep touching even the remote areas attracting huge number customers offering them lucrative concession and wide range of products available at their door steps.

But, it was found in many cases that many customers were cheated by the online trading firms, who were let off with no punishment for want of stringent laws. Sadly, even the police were not aware of the procedures to take up investigation on the complaints against online trading, Reddy said while reiterating the demand for a stringent law and also sustained campaign to create awareness among consumers.

Marking the occasion, a book on 'Trusted Smart Products' on online business was released for the benefit of consumers. Viswam Educational Institutions chairman Viswanatha Reddy, District Consumer Association secretary M Srinivasulu and others were also spoke.
