Tiruppavai to replace chanting of Suprabhatam at Tirumala from December 17
Tirumala: The recitation of Suprabatham, a predawn ritual, being observed daily in the famed Tirumala will be replaced with the chanting of Tiruppavai
for a month with the advent of Dhanurmasam from December 17.
The Tamil Tiruppavai containing 30 Pasurams (stanzas) written by Andal also known as Goda Devi, the one and only female among the 12 Alwars eulogizing Lord Krishna one of the popular Avatar of Maha Vishnu will be recited in the place of Suprabhatam-the awakening seva of Lord in Sri Venkateswara shrine till January 14, 2021.
Alwars (one who is immersed in the experience of God) occupies a unique place in Vaishnavism as they dedicated their entire life for the propagation of the Vishnu cult.
All the Sri Vaishnavaite temples follow the recitation of Tiruppavai hymns as part of Divyaprabhandam praised as Dravida Vedam during the entire month and it is also an important month for all spiritual seekers as it is believed as the most sacred period for worship of Lord Vishnu.
According to Hindu scriptures, a day of God is equal to six months (Uttarayana) and a night equal to the remaining months (Dakshinayana) in a human year. Dhanurmasam falls at the end of Dakshinayana. In fact, this month is considered to be auspicious for worship during early hours and this hour is called Brahmamuhurtam.
To invoke the blessing of the Lord, Tiruppavai pasurams, with each one on each day for a total 30 days will be recited seeking the prosperity of the universe – devoid of disease, famine or any form of unhappiness.
