Vijayawada: Heritage post cards on Pancharamams released

Vijayawada: Releasing the heritage post cards of the Andhra Pradesh postal circle here on Wednesday, Minister for Endowments Velampalli Srinivasa Rao said that these post cards reflected the culture of Andhra Pradesh.

As part of the promotion of culture and heritage of the State and philately, the postal circle of Andhra Pradesh brought out the postal cards on Pancharamams at the camp office of the minister, said Chief Postmaster General M Venkateswarlu. The Pancharamams include Amararamam (Amaravati), Somaramam (Bhimavaram), Ksheeraramam (Palakollu), Draksharamam and Kumararamam (Samarlakota). Simultaneously, these heritage cards were released at the five temples by the Postal department in association with the local temple administration.

Venkateswarlu said these five Pancharamams depict the ancient history of Andhra Pradesh like Amaravati dates back to second century and the other four temples were built by King Chalukya Bhima in the 9th century.

Vijayawada Postmaster General TM Sreelatha said that the Postal department is reaching out to students, parents and philatelists through conducting exhibitions, group discussions, letter writing competitions, quiz programmes to improve knowledge on historical events and places in the State and country.

It may be recalled that recently the Postal department brought out post cards on toys of Kondapalli and Yetikoppaka with the tag name Toys of India. Director of Postal Services S Ranganathan, assistant post master general KVLN Murthy, senior superintendent of post offices Kandula Sudheer Babu, and several members of the civil society attended the programme.
