Vijayawada: LIC staff protest against privatisation of corporation
Vijayawada: Participating in the nationwide general strike here on Thursday, the employees of the Life Insurance Corporation of India demanded the Centre to withdraw the proposal to disinvest the government stake in the LIC, and not to list the LIC in the stock market, implementation of the wage revision of the LIC employees.
The LIC employees also expressed resentment against the privatisation of the public sector undertakings amendment to the Labour laws. They also demanded abolition of the new contributory pension scheme, the payment of minimum wage of Rs 21,000 to the workers.
LIC Employees Union joint secretary Chilakalapudi said in a statement that more than 90 per cent of the LIC employees participated in the general strike throughout the country. He demanded that the Centre immediately solve their long-pending problems.
Vice-president of the union NMK Prasad, assistant treasurer Madhu, branch secretaries N Srinivas, Ch Rajasekhar, CH MV Prasad, Gurram Srinivas, MP Govardhan and others participated in the protest.
