Vijayawada Municipal Corporation creates awareness on hygiene

Vijayawada: As part of the efforts to get better rank in Swatch Sarvekshan Mission in the country, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) staff took out a rally at Satyanarayana puram here on Thursday, to create awareness on the importance of maintaining hygiene and using of urinals and avoiding open defecation in the city.

The VMC chief and medical and health officer Dr Geeta Bai flagged the rally at the AKTP school. Holding the banners and placards the VMC took out a rally to create awareness among the denizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Geeta Bai said that the denizens must use two baskets for the garbage and avoid open defecation in the city. She said that the VMC has arranged public toilets at various parts of the city and been trying to educate people on using the public toilets. She said that collection of waste in two different baskets for the dry and wet waste is very important to get rid of the garbage menace and for producing the organic manure.

The rally was conducted as per the instruction of the VMC commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh. AMHO Dr Ramakoteswara Rao and sanitary supervisors and others public health department staff participated in the rally.
