Transport Minister Perni Nani

Vijayawada: Badugu Umadevi, sister of B Nageswara Rao, who attacked transport minister Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani), said on Monday her brother was not associated with any political party and she did not know why her brother attacked the minister.

Umadevi is the vice-president of the Krishna district TDP. She told the media on Monday that she is the only person in the family associated with the politics. Umadevi said her brother works as a mason and had no work for many months. She said her brother committed a crime and deserves punishment for it. Nageswara Rao attacked minister Perni Nani with a trowel at his residence on Sunday, when the minister was conducting ceremony of his mother. Luckily, minister escaped unhurt.

Umadevi said she came to knew that her brother was in an inebriated condition during the incident. "My brother was worried over the sand policies being implemented by the YSRCP government and used to say that construction workers had lost work due to them," she said.

She refuted the allegations by Perni Nani that her brother worked as election booth agent for TDP in the past. "My brother studied up to Class VII only while the minimum qualification for being a polling agent is SSC," she explained.

Meanwhile, Machilipatnam police registered a case against Nageswara Rao under the Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and are investigating.
