Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Urban Citizens Federation launched Pattana Praja Bheri Yatra which would visit all the 13 districts in the State in 11 days to inform the people about repercussions of the newly introduced property tax system based on the land value instead of the earlier rental value system.

Convener of the APUCF Ch Babu Rao would be travelling all over the State to bring awareness among people on the new tax system which is detrimental to the interest of people. MLC KS Lakshmana Rao and former mayor Jandhyala Sankar formally flagged off the vehicle at the press club here on Thursday.

AP Chamber of Commerce president K Vidyadhara Rao, Hotel Owners Association president P Ravi, FAPCCI secretary V Muralikrishna, Cine Exhibitors Association secretary Sai, Schools Association president Sambasiva Rao, Taxpayers Association president and secretary Sambi Reddy and MV Anjaneyulu and others participated in the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Jandhyala Sankar said that enhancing the tax structure during the pandemic is atrocious.

Babu Rao said that the state government yielded to the pressure from the Centre only to get additional loans for the government. It is highly deplorable that the municipal bill was passed by the Assembly though it was rejected in the Council. The new tax system would be burdensome to people.

He said that the yatra was intended to bring awareness among people and ten lakh signatures would be collected throughout the state.
