Vijayawada: Women Commission lays down action plan for 100-day Mahila March

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh State Mahila Commission has envisaged a massive action plan for 100-day Mahila March starting from December 4 in Ongole in Prakasam district and culminating in Vijayawada in a massive march of women on March 8th, the International Women's Day to bring out the various women's issues.

Vasireddy Padma, chairperson of the State Mahila Commission, disclosed the action plan to the media at the farmers training centre in the Irrigation office here on Thursday.

The 100-day programme is a step forward to achieve Mahilandhra Pradesh, said Padma. "The women should take advantage of the programmes like various welfare activities and 50 per cent reservations given by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led State government for their emancipation," she said.

Padma appealed to one and all to cooperate with the Mahila Commission in making women a force to reckon with in the State by coordinating with all the departments.

Referring to the programmes to be undertaken which are aimed at 'women empowerment-security and protection', she said that the programmes would start from the village-level to the State-level.

An awareness campaign would be launched for women regarding welfare schemes and various enactments for their protection right from Amma Vodi to Amul project. The women would be informed about the Disha Act, Disha App and Disha police stations for their protection, and their rights to make utilise of these services.

During the week, once a week 'Sakhi' programme would be organised to receive complaints from working women both in the public sector and private sector at division and district levels. Likewise, programmes like 'Bharosa', 'Cheruva', 'Mana Kosam' and others would be organised. In the name of Camps Cops, protection teams would be set up in the educational institutions. 'Melukolupu' would help to bring awareness among women regarding cybercrimes. Under 'Sahayam' destitute women and women caught in brothel houses would be rescued.

All-women bike rally would be taken out in Vijayawada on December 8 to bring awareness among women on their rights, welfare measures and helpline for their protection.

Mahila Commission member Tammisetti Ramadevi, director Ravuri Suez, Child Rights Advocacy Foundation director P Francis Thambi, Women's Welfare department project director Manoranjani, Krishan district APD Pramila Rani and others were present.
