Visakhapatnam: The village / ward secretariat exams are held peacefully across the district for the recruitment of 1.1 lakh village / ward secretariat jobs on Sunday. District Collector V Vinay Chand, who inspected the examination centres, said over 1.31 lakh aspirants were issued hall tickets for the exam.

Of which, he stated, 1.22 lakh attended and 9,900 abstained. He said the exams were conducted in 406 centres and they concluded peacefully. While the first paper was concluded at 12:30 pm, the second paper was held at 46 centres.

The District Collector, who visited various centres, was accompanied by GVMC Commissioner G Srijana. Some physically-challenged persons and the visually-challenged found it a daunting task to reach the exam centres because of the rain.

Besides the murky roads they had to navigate, lack of proper infrastructure at the centres led to discomfort for the PwDs. Close to 800 RTC buses ferried the candidates for the test.
