150 grain procurement centres to come up in Vizag

Tourism Minister speaking to party activists at a meeting in Visakhapatnam on Sunday

Visakhapatnam: About 150 grain procurement centres will be set up across the district, said Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao.

Inaugurating a grain procurement centre at Padmanabham mandal of Bheemunipatnam constituency on Sunday, he said farmers should bring 17 per cent grains with moisture to the centre and get a support price of Rs 1,888 per quintal for grade one and Rs 1,868 per quintal for common variety.

The Minister assured that under the 'Jala Kala scheme', the government will facilitate borewells free of cost for the needy farmers across the state.

Srinivasa Rao said that water will be facilitated for every acre by using available groundwater resources.

Later, he distributed cheques to the tune of Rs 16 lakh to 927 farmers as part of the YSR Zero Interest Loan Scheme.

Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy, Agriculture Department Joint Director G N S Leelavati, other officials, farmers and public representatives participated in the programme. Later, the Minister attended meeting with the party activists and appealed to them to bring issues to his notice.
