Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation zones increased to eight from six

Visakhapatnam: To make administration more convenient, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) increased the number of zones from six to eight.

Earlier, 72 wards existed under the ambit of the corporation. By merging Bheemunipatnam and Anakapalle areas, the wards have gone up to 98.

With Visakhapatnam to be developed as executive capital of the state, the corporation is keen on realigning the zones to make administration a hassle-free exercise.

Along with zone-I, wards one and four in zone-I; zone-II and wards five and 13 in zone-II; zone-III and wards 14 and 27 in zone-III; zone IV and wards 28 and 39 in zone-IV; zone-V and wards 40 and 63 in zone-V; zone-VI and wards 64 and 79 in zone-VI; part of zone-VI, Anakapalle, wards 80 and 84 in zone-VII and zone-VIII, Pendurthi and wards 89 and 98 in zone-VIII.

With the division of wards, the corporation officials intend to make administration more convenient and effective.
