Guard pond inaugurated at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to protect environment
Visakhapatnam: As part of the eco-friendly measure and to protect the environment, RINL CMD P K Rath inaugurated a guard pond at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
The guard pond has four ponds with each having a capacity of 9,600 cubic meters for storing treated effluent from Coke Ovens. Guard ponds are considered as 'safeguard mechanisms' for preventing discharge of untreated effluents into the marine environment.
In line with the statutory directives, RINL constructed guard ponds at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Once the effluent water is stored, it will be discharged into the marine environment after the quality is cross-checked by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board.
This ensures that cent per cent of the effluent being discharged into the marine environment is done only after it meets the prescribed norms.
Rath lauded the efforts made by the team of the projects and works for completing the project within the stipulated time.
RINL Director (Personnel) K C Das, Director (Commercial) D K Mohanty, Director (Projects) K K Ghosh and Director (Operations) A K Saxena were present at the inaugural on Wednesday.
