When they offered a job in the government sector, Azmeera Tirupathy Nayak and his brother Bhukiya Thirupathy Nayak trusted them and paid an amount of Rs 8.9 lakh in instalments. The trio also managed to submit fabricated appointment letters to the victims and made them believe that they helped 26 others to get Central government jobs. The accused also created WhatsApp groups and posted fake updates to the applicants.

A resident of Ukkunagaram said he got acquainted with the accused when he was taking coaching in Hyderabad. He later lodged a complaint with the police about the constables who cheated him and his brother.

In January 2019, the three accused along with 28 members went to Nagpur and stayed there for three days. Later, victims came to know that they were cheated and filed a complaint with the airport police station in Visakhapatnam.

The police formed special teams to investigate the case and nabbed the accused. However, the amount looted by the trio is yet to be recovered. The DCP lauded the efforts of the team members who investigated and cracked the case.
