Visakhapatnam: Andhra University signs pact with INCOIS
Visakhapatnam: Andhra University has entered an MoU with the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) to carry out collaborative research, development and outreach activities to provide and disseminate advisories potential fishing zones and the ocean state forecast. INCOIS will be establishing a 'field station' to cater to the collaborative needs of the East Coast.
The Centre for Studies on Bay of Bengal in association with other academic departments of AU will be involved in the development of algorithms and provide inputs from field studies to validate the same along with the East Coast of India.
As part of the collaboration, state of the art equipment like current meters, wave and tide gauges, eco-sounders, computational and analytical facilities will be provided by INCOIS. The facilities augmented at the centre can be accessed not only by the academic community of the varsity but also by academicians and professionals working in the east coast for research purposes.
INCOIS director T Srinivasa Kumar informed that a proposal to expand the scope of activities and take them to the next higher level is also made. He said large quantum of seismic and ocean data can be provided to the university for analysis and research purposes. Vice Chancellor of the varsity PVGD Prasad Reddy said the collaboration will contribute significantly to taking science to communities. The MoU was signed by AU Registrar V Krishna Mohan and the director of INCOIS in the presence of VC. Prof Samata, Rector of AU, executive council members Srinivasa Rao, among others were present.
