Visakhapatnam bags international award in Smart City Expo World Congress 2020
The coastal city Visakhapatnam is in the race for an international award as it competes with global smart cities at the 2020 Smart City Expo World Congress in Spain. As many as 20 cities across the world competed with the Most Innovative and Successful Projects in the 'Living and Inclusion Award' category. Visakhapatnam bagged third place. The 'All Ability Park' built on Beach Road competed for the Living and Inclusion Award. The awards were announced in seven categories.
A total of 46 cities from all over the world competed in this expo where only Visakhapatnam from India has qualified. The awards were announced in the respective categories at the two-day expo. Brazil tops the list with a slum development project, followed by Istanbul, Turkey, with a project to pay various bills for the poor through international donations. The All Ability Park opposite the YMCA on Visakhapatnam Beach Road came in third.
The park has a climbing net, children's play equipment, ship deck, musical poles, playground drums and specially landscaped. A three-seater Mary Ground was also set up. This is the first Ability Park in the country for the disabled. The park has been praised by Americans as well as the UK Ambassador for sharing the latest experience with children, especially for the fun.
