Visakhapatnam: Fishing with ring seine nets within 8-km from coast banned
Visakhapatnam: Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Seediri Appalaraju said fishing with ring seine nets within 8-km from the coast at sea was banned.
Speaking to the media at the Circuit House here on Tuesday, Appalaraju informed the decision was taken to this effect by the government after discussing with motor boat owners and traditional boat fishermen.
The Minister explained that license holders can continue fishing within 8-km from the coast and no new licenses will be issued further.
Speaking on the occiasion, Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said 30 per cent of the world's economy depends on fishing. South constituency MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar pointed out that the ring seine net was banned by the States of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
District Collector V Vinay Chand, Director of Fisheries Kannababu, Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy, Fisheries JD Fani Prakash, DD Lakshmana Rao and others participated in the meeting.
