Visakhapatnam: Four Maoists surrendered before Visakhapatnam Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) L K V Ranga Rao here on Monday.

Among the four, Korra Seetha alias Swarna alias Shailu was an important member of the Pedabayalu Area Committee. The 25-year-old, who joined the Maoist party in 2010, carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head. She was involved in nine murders, including the murders of Gemmili Bhaskara Rao and Pangi Sattibabu at Veeravaram village in 2019, planting of landmines, arson and exchange of fires against police.

Maoist militia member in Pedabayalu, Pangi Musiri alias Chittibabu (36), militia member of coffee committee, Balpam panchayat, Korra Venkata Rao (37), and militia member of CPI (Maoist) Party, Pangi Gopalarao alias Gopal (55) were the other Maoists who surrendered along with Seetha.

Ill-health, intense combing operations of the police, increased restrictions in the Agency areas and not willing to kill innocent tribals by branding them as informers were some of the reasons cited by the four Maoists for surrendering before the police.

In addition, they said, rehabilitation and the amount of reward on them as per the surrender policy of the government will be granted.
