Visakhapatnam: More women officers to be inducted in warships
Visakhapatnam: Women officers are making their presence felt on board the ships and their dedication is highly appreciable, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ENC Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain said ahead of the Navy Day celebrations on Friday.
With zero tolerance to gender discrimination, the ENC chief says more women officers will be inducted gradually on board the warships. In terms of promotion and pay scale, they will be on a par with their male counterparts, he emphasises. "About nine to 10 women officers are permanently commissioned in various branches of the Indian Navy," says AK Jain.
Since they need specific accommodation and washrooms, AK Jain says, efforts are on to make the infrastructure friendly for them. "We are working hard to have suitable infrastructure for women officers on ships to carry out marine operations," says the Vice-Admiral.
Further, he adds women officers are very proactive related to their profession, combat fighting and supportive role along with other aspects of the naval activities such as mountaineering and sailing expeditions.
