Visakhapatnam: Multi-level car parking to be ready before Sankranti
Visakhapatnam: The multi-level car parking (MLCP) with a 100-car capacity at the busiest junction of the city is all set to open its doors to the public before 'Pedda Panduga' (Sankranti).
The first-of-its-kind smart city project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, aims at decluttering traffic to a significant extent at Jagadamba centre where traffic snarls continue to be a common feature.
With the trial run already taking place at the MLCP, works are apace to wrap up the project at the earliest and make it available for the public in less than two weeks.
A few days before, Municipal Commissioner G Srijana and Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Botcha Satyanarayana inspected the facility and monitored the trial run.
The five-floored project is inching towards completion in 367.8 sqmt at a cost of Rs 9.7 crore. Initiated in 2019, the project could not take off due to various reasons, including the lockdown and the subsequent pandemic situation.
Elaborating about the project, GVMC Chief Engineer M Venkateswara Rao says, "The MLCP aids in resolving parking woes at Jagadamba junction to a large extent. Works are being accelerated and in the final stage. The idea is to ready the facility before Sankranti."
With each floor accommodating 20 cars, parking at the MLCP will take a few minutes, the GVMC officials say.
As Visakhapatnam is gearing up to become the executive capital, facilitating MLCP is a step towards providing a smart solution to mounting traffic woes at one of the busiest junctions in the city.
